Department Objectives
The Amityville Union Free School District is committed to implementing the New York State Languages Other Than English (L.O.T.E.) standards. The two standards are Communication and Culture. By studying a language other than English, students learn how to communicate in another language and begin to understand and appreciate the similarities and differences between themselves and the people who speak the targeted language. The LOTE program and courses are driven and guided by the New York State Learning Standards for Languages Other Than English and the Bilingual Common Core Initiative.
